An umbrella worker’s view for umbrella manufacturing

An umbrella that shelters us from the rain may seem simple, but to make an umbrella actually requires more than 30 processes, expecial is customized umbrella; large and small, and most of the processes are made by hand, so every umbrella They are all handicrafts, the brainchild of workers. As a management member of an umbrella factory, I am deeply grateful to every employee who has dedicated their efforts in the workshop, and I would like to thank you all. I will detail the procedures for making umbrellas for you below, so that you can understand that every umbrella is hard to come by.

Process 1. Large cutting The so-called large cutting is the cutting of rolls of umbrella cloth into thin strips. This procedure can be done with a cloth cutter or a worker with a blade.

Process 2. Small cutting The so-called small cutting is to cut the long-shaped umbrella cloth after the large cutting into triangles, which are used as the umbrella surface of the umbrella. The worker first uses some wooden strips to make a triangular wooden frame, puts the wooden frame on the umbrella cloth, and then carefully cuts it out piece by piece with a blade. This procedure is completely manual and does not use any machinery.

Process 3. Umbrella printing There are several printing methods used in umbrella production, among which thermal transfer and screen printing are the most common. Here we will use screen printing as an example. First use a drying machine to make a screen, and then fix the screen on a square wooden frame. After that, the worker will pour the paint into the wooden frame, and then cover the wooden frame on the triangular umbrella cloth. Swipe a few times and the pattern will be printed on the umbrella cloth. This procedure can be done mechanically or manually. The characteristic of screen printing is that the color of the pattern is bright and clear. Generally, a solid color pattern or company logo is ideal.

Process 4. Combine the pieces After the silk screen is completed, the triangle pieces can be combined into an umbrella surface with a sewing machine. Different types of umbrellas have different numbers of triangles on the umbrella surface, ranging from 6 to 24. Workers use their hands to fit each triangle piece by piece. This step is extremely important. The needles of the sewing machine should be small and the number of needles should be large enough, otherwise there will be water seepage when it rains.

Process 5. Umbrella beads installation After the umbrella surface is completed, the workers use special machines to install umbrella beads on each corner. Umbrella beads are important accessories for umbrellas, used to fix the umbrella surface on the ribs. The material is plastic or iron, and there are many shapes to choose from.

Process 6. The procedure for the upper rib is to join the umbrella surface to the umbrella rib. The worker must connect the umbrella surface to the umbrella rib by hand, stitch by thread. No machine can be used. For each rib, the worker usually uses two to Use three knots to fasten the ribs and the umbrella surface.

Process 7. As the name suggests, this procedure is to connect the handle to the middle rod. The above picture shows the worker heating the iron middle rod with fire, and then install the plastic handle, so that no glue is needed, but it is different The materials need to be connected in different ways. For example, when the wooden rod is to be fitted with a wooden handle, it must be joined with hot melt glue.

Process 8. Product inspection. Each umbrella will be sent to the quality inspection department for quality inspection before leaving the factory. Workers have a written procedure to test each umbrella, such as whether the opening is smooth, whether there are stains, whether the printing is perfect, etc. The departments are all manually operated.

Process 9. Product packaging Umbrellas that pass the quality inspection will be sent to the packaging department. Workers will pack the umbrellas into cartons. Umbrellas of different sizes will be packed in cartons of different sizes, and each umbrella will be covered with a separate transparent plastic bag.

Finally, boxes of umbrellas will be stacked on the pallet in a row, waiting to be transported to the location designated by the guest. After the above brief introduction, let everyone know that every umbrella is hard to come by. It is the result of the workers’ hard work every stitch. Let me thank all the employees again, and hope that readers can use the umbrella every time. One cherish and one more gratitude, thank you.
